From the 1800s through the 1950s, it was standard practice for doctors to make house calls. Sadly that practice has fallen by the wayside and patients are generally expected to show up at the doctor’s office or a hospital if they need medical care. Likewise, the majority of people who need legal services go to an attorney’s office. While driving to an office to meet with a divorce lawyer or attend a real estate closing is not a problem for most people, many senior citizens or individuals living with a disability may have difficulty getting to an attorney’s office. For this reason, we, as well as some other Elder Law attorneys, offer the option of meeting with a client in their home, the hospital, or a nursing home. Many elderly clients are no longer comfortable driving due to medical or vision issues, so we’re always happy to offer the ability to meet with those clients via a telephone conference or a video conference, and we’re willing to travel to them for document signings if they’re not able to travel to us.
If you or an elderly parent need help with estate planning, Medicaid eligibility, or other matters, don’t let the inability to get to an attorney’s office keep you from getting the legal help you need. Taking care of our senior clients is our first priority and we’re happy to make house calls if needed!
